Poker Web Directory
The internet is filled with information on the game of poker. There are several high quality websites that you
can visit to learn more about the various versions of poker, and how to play them well. We have listed several of those sites in
our poker directory.
Please note that the links on this page will take you to a new website, and you will be leaving Turning River.
We cannot take credit for any of the content of these sites, nor can we take blame.
Poker Software
Poker Tracker - a database program that keeps track of every aspect of your online play. You can track
your play (by session, by hand, even by table position). You can also track your opponents, and their playing habits.
There is a demo version of pokertracker available for free. There are also support forums and third party program add-ons. For purposes of full disclosure, I use Pokertracker when I play.
Strategy Sites
Play Winning Poker - is Steve Badger's site. Steve enjoys Omaha more than Texas Holdem, which is good. That means there is a quality site offering information on more than just developing your texas holdem game. Steve is constantly writing for his site, addressing different poker issues, both online and off.
Winning Holdem.net is a site about limit holdem strategy. The author has put together a site that is focused specifically on the limit cash games. This is a change of pace from most sites, that cater more towards tournament and no limit players.
Flop, Turn, River - is a poker strategy site that makes extensive use of the Party Poker Hand Replayer. Strategies are discussed, and then shown in action via the replayer. Cardroom reviews are candid, and include both casino rooms and online poker rooms.
Online Poker Strategy - is a clean consice source of poker information. There is a lot of information on online poker, but the game strategies they offer apply just as well to offline face-to-face play. And there is more to the site than texas holdem talk, with sections on tournament play and 7 Card Stud. The site also has an active forum.
Mastering Texas Holdem - is dedicated to one game. The strategy sections go more in depth than most holdem sites, with articles on changing limits, shorthanded play and bankroll management amoung other topics. They also present strategies for various forms of tournaments (freerolls, single tables, multi-tables).
Learn Texas Holdem - is a site that features a series of articles about different aspects of the game. They range from Hand Groupings and Pot Odds, to what to expect during your first visit to a card room.
Poker Math
I understand fully that poker is a game played between people, using cards. Still, if you are interested in the math behind things like our poker calculators, or if you want to be able to figure out odds of poker phenomena happening for yourself, the following sites are good sources of quality information.
Ask Dr. Math - this is a less intimidating site on poker math. There are a series of reasonable questions, and Dr. Math works out the answers showing you how he got there. The problems are written up as a teacher to a student, so they are easier to follow along.
Math World -
solves the mystery of how to find the probabilities of being dealt five-card poker hands of a given type (before discarding and with no jokers) on the initial deal.
Dr. Alspach's Pages -
Brian Alspach is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and Statistics. And he likes poker. This is his site, with some mathematical insight into the game.
Resources
Online Poker Rules - offfers a wide variety of information from home game, host your own tournament advice to a listing of sites about the characters in the World Poker Tour. There are also pages of rules to kitchen table poker games and strategy guides to the popular online games. Articles from top poker authors and reviews of the online poker rooms are also things you'll find at this deep and ranging site.
Pagat Poker Page - Pagat is a warehouse of card game information, with many links to thoroughly interesting sites. They have a page dedicated to poker, which includes hand made link lists of poker software providers, game rules and variations, books and equiptment, and more.
Poker Portal - probably the ultimate poker links list. Links to poker sites that deal with every aspect of the game. Topics include: professional players pages, poker software, poker books, online poker rooms, forums, poker variations, poker rules, and more. If you are having trouble finding poker information, visit their site. If a poker website is not listed here, it may not exist.
Home Poker Tourney - "Advice on how to host and run a no-limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament in your home." At least that's nutn2lewz's descrition of his site, and it's quite accurate. It's also the best site I've seen on putting together a home, or local tournament. If you have questions about cards, chips, blind structures, breaking down tables, or any other aspect of running a poker tournament, visit this site.
Unknown Poker - is a unique poker website. The man in charge reviews the smaller online poker rooms candidly, which is refreshing. There is also a breakdown of the pros and cons of playing at a smaller poker room online compared to the larger more established sites. The unknown poker player has graced the pages of the Wizard of Odds, so I know that Turning River is in good company when we give the nod of approval to this site.
Poker Babes - is a site by Shirley Rosario. She has a huge number of in depth poker player profiles on the site, so you can find the backgrounds on all of the pros on the circuit from Devilfish to Amir Vahedi. Besides the profiles there is plenty of strategy and general poker information to be perused.
Forums
Poker Training - at Gidders.com. This is the first poker training site I came across. It's a pay for membership site that has dozens of training videos (several up to one hour long), and message boards where members can discuss the different strategies contained in each video. The videos are taken during actual tournament play and feature a running commentary that is both informative, and entertaining. A much easier way to digest poker strategy information than many of the dry-as-toast textbooks I've seen.
CardsChat - is a card players message board with thousands and thousands of posts. There are forums dedicated to poker with chat about both online and offline experiences. They have a poker games section with articles as well.
